saying the blessing..

a broken air conditioner and a purse cake

when my niece first learned to say the blessing, she would ramble, making a list of all the things she was thankful for.  one night at supper, in the middle of her sweet little blessing, she says "thank God for the white cheese". parmesan cheese :o) she loves it so much. enough to thank God for it. when i am in the kitchen, with chocolate cake batter freckles on my nose, powdered sugar up to my elbows, and no electric cooling, i am still thankful. for baking and cakes. because i love them so much!

on writing letters

i don't write many letters. i have a few, maybe 3, written mostly to myself, just so i won't forget.  i do have another collection of letters, about a dozen. torn and wrapped in faded brown envelopes.  i found them at my gram's house recently.  they were written from my pop to my gram in 1937. he was living in miami, she was staying in pahokee; they were only boyfriend and girlfriend then.

sometimes i like to lay in bed after i wake up and just listen.  the other morning as i lay listening, i heard my mama and daddy discussing the letters i had gotten from my gram.  they wondered out loud what letters my children would read.  i can't help but wonder the same.

Aubrey's Strawberry Shortcake

my sister has arranged for her handsome kitchen aid mixer to spend some time with me! i am so excited about this!!! i used it this evening to whip up a double batch of cake batter for a preschool graduation cake i am making.  in less than an hour i effectivley put to use 6 sticks of butter, a dozen eggs, and probably 5 pounds of sugar!
